VIR Race Pit Stops |
Pit Stop Regulations
As you all know by now, our race at VIR is a one-hour race with
a required pit stop. Here are the regulations:
1. Pit Stop Time: The required 5-minute pit stop must come
in the first 45 minutes of the race. To be exact, you must exit
the pits with at least 15 minutes remaining in the race. If you
pass the pit exit with 14 minutes and 58 seconds remaining in the
race, you will be disqualified. The pit stop is timed from pit entrance
to pit exit, NOT the amount of time the car is at a stop.
This presents a little problem in timing how long it will take
for you to reach pit exit from your pit, but thats their rule.
2. Pit Stop Crew: During fueling, you must have three crew
members in Nomex at the car. One fueler, one next to him holding
a fire extinguisher and one standing by at the driver window to
assist him in case of fire. The gas man and extinguisher man must
have hoods and goggles. After fueling is complete, more crew may
go over the wall. You are not limited to four.
3. Work on the Car: They use European rules (identical to
American LeMans Series), meaning that NO work may be done on the
car during fueling, including windshield, tires or anything else.
When fueling is complete, then work on the car can begin.
4. Fueling: No funnels, please. Except in the case of the
few cars using dry beaks, use a hose on your fuel can long enough
to feed into the fuel neck before you turn the can up.
Co-Drivers
If you wish to use a co-driver and change at the pit stop, thats
OK. Points will go to the driver that started the car.
