2006 Season |
Happy New Year.
This wont come as news to the teams who had already committed
by telephone to the first race at Sebring, because Ive talked
with almost everyone expected at Sebring on the phone the in last
two days.
Our first race will not be Sebring, March 2-5, with HSR. It will
be at Road Atlanta, March 18-19 with NASA Southeast.
Historic Sportscar Racing has decided to uninvite us to the three
races we were supposed to run with them.
We were completely blindsided by this. The HSR principals apparently
held a meeting about ten days ago, at which they decided to uninvite
our series from running with HSR in 2006, but nobody bothered to
tell us about it. HSR has known since November of last year that
we intended to run three races with them again 2006. As a matter
of fact, I talked with HSR director Ken Fengler Tuesday about an
unrelated licensing matter, and he never said a thing to me about
this decision, which had apparently been made a full week earlier.
Were obviously disappointed with this, but especially disappointed
in the incredibly unprofessional manner in which it was done. I
had to find out about it from Judy, the HSR secretary. To this day,
Ive still not been provided any official notification about
it from any HSR official.
A revised schedule is below. The two other HSR race dates we need
to replace will be filled quickly.
Running With NASA.
NASA Southeast, a three-year old NASA region based in Atlanta,
was very accommodating in quickly confirming that we would be welcome
at their race at Road Atlanta, March 18-19. All we need to do is
for our drivers who are not already NASA licensed to join NASA and
apply for licensing. Its actually less expensive than renewing
your HSR license would have been.
The registrar from NASA Southeast tells me she is going to put together
an e-mail for me to forward outlining the easiest way to get registered
on-line.
However, you can do it now by simply going to www.nasaproracing.com
and join online with a credit card. There's a button to click on
to join on-line. I did it today in just a few minutes. The membership
cost was $40.00. You are joining the Southeast Region.
To get licensed, you have to download a PDF of the license application
and medical form, fill them out and send to NASA. Your SCCA, HSR
or NASCAR license should be all they need.
Click here for PDFs of the paper membership
application, the competition
license application, the technical
inspection form and the medical
form.
To get information about NASA Southeast, their web site is www.nasa-southeast.com.
More information very soon.
